Experience wine tasting Metsovo; sample the smoked Metsovone, wild truffle, pies and game dishes are just some of the elements that compose the multidimensional experience of gastronomy of Metsovo and Epirus.
Metsovo produces one of the most famous wines of Greece, "Katogi Averoff". The wineries of the region are famous for centuries, as indicated by an old ledger of 1723, which mentions that vines of Metsovo give 50,000 bottles of wine. It therefore goes without saying that wine tasting Metsovo is an almost mandatory activity. The winery tour is a unique experience. Ambient lighting, oak barrels with particular aesthetic, films about the history of the vineyard and production, a stylish Wine Bar of European specifications and flavor tasting are reasons that make the visit imperative.
Cheese making is an art widely spread to the villagers for years. The first cheese factory founded in the region was that of Tositsa Foundation, which is now the largest of Metsovo. Until today the cheese making tradition continues, offering great varieties like Metsovone, gruyere and parmesan of Metsovo.
Hunting for wild truffle is the peak experience of flavors and nature lovers. The truffle (tartufo) is a rare underground mushroom, which coexist and grow on the roots of certain species of trees or shrubs, creating with them a symbiotic relationship of interdependence. This relationship in scientific terms called "mycorrhizal” symbiosis which means that both parties benefit from living together. After the tour that will be undertaken by the Troufa Club organization, a unique wild mushroom soup will be offered to the adventurous travelers.
